Kessler at IRONMAN Taupo 70.3

Just after claiming her third straight first-place win at IRONMAN Arizona, globe-trotting Ventum pro Meredith Kessler headed halfway across the world to New Zealand… and went on to clinch her fifth straight win in the IRONMAN Taupo 70.3 this weekend! Amazing!

With her customized Ventum — entirely covered with the initials of family and friends — she gave it her all. “Coming off a victory at Ironman Arizona 2.5 weeks ago, there was so much uncertainty as to whether the run legs would keep moving with gusto. The finish line could not have come any sooner with a sprint finish… As always, the kind crowds of New Zealand and Taupo cheers were appreciated and certainly needed all over the course!”

Blazing IRONMAN Chattanooga

IRONMAN Chattanooga is known as a fast course, though the weekend’s edition had the added pressure of a heat index well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit to contend with. In the pro field, the heat was on as the men exited the water in a tight group. As others made their attacks, Ventum Pro Justin Daerr continued to demonstrate his knowledge and mastery of the long-course distance events. Throughout the three portions of the 140.6 miles, Daerr stuck to a scheduled nutrition, hydration, and pace plan. From 11th place out of the water, Daerr’s consistency paid off as he made his way up to 5th in the field.

Two Ventum Pros Finish in the Top Five at ITU Long Course Worlds!

After one of the most exciting finishes in IRONMAN racing in 2015, Matt Chrabot opted not to return to the site of his epic sprint finish at Chattanooga this year. Instead, the ITU Long Course World Championship drew Chrabot and fellow #VentumPro Cody Beals to finish in the top five in the race! A choppy swim left Chrabot and Beals with some ground to make up. Riding their way through 120km of rolling hills and cross-winds, each set themselves up to do damage on the run-course. Matt Chrabot dueled his way to the line pulling away in the last kilometers to take a podium finish with the bronze in 6:06:18. Meanwhile, Beals ran up 6 spots on his way to a 5th place finish in his first shot at long-course racing.

Mooloolaba, home of the IRONMAN Sunshine Coast 70.3, is this year’s location for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship race. With over 3,000 athletes qualifying through IRONMAN competitions world-wide, the race had pro and age-group athletes lined up within minutes of each other to tackle a course full of unique challenges.

Former Cairns resident and four-time world champion Leanda Cave — now racing back in Australia for the first time in 10 years — arrived ready for a showdown on her way to the IRONMAN World Championship. In the time leading up to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, Cave and fellow #VentumPro Lauren Brandon took some time to check out the course highlights.

Sunday morning (or Saturday afternoon on the US broadcast), triathletes all over the world tuned in to see who the new champion would be on the world stage. In the first leg of the race, Lauren Brandon comfortably led the women out of the water with 29 seconds on the chase-pack that contained Leanda Cave. Once out on the bike course, Brandon kept the pressure on with the 5th-fastest female bike split, coming into T2 in second place. Brandon had a solid finish by running her personal-best race day 13.1 miles to complete her first IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.

One week later on yet another continent, Ventum Pros hit the start line at the Beijing International Triathlon. From short-course gold medalists to long-course world champions, the start list indicated an impressive race to come.

After a strong swim with the chase-pack, Cameron Dye kept it as no secret that he owns the first 5 miles of any bike course. Quickly, he put the hammer down on his Ventum One and jumped into the front position. Dye’s race best 55:47 bike split gave him a 2-second lead heading out onto the run to eventually finish on the podium in 3rd place.

Back in California, Cody Beals put together a fine tune-up race at IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Cruz in preparation for his long-course debut at the ITU World Championship in a few short weeks. The race turned into a battle of wills as a group of 7 battled for positioning throughout the bike course. Coming into T2 just seconds apart, the men headed out onto the run for 13.1 miles of fighting for podium spots. Throughout the run, their placements ranged from 2nd to 7th in a few short miles. Ending the day in 4th place, Cody will be one to watch as he begins long-course racing.

Welcome to the height of race season, where athletes from all over the globe are hitting mid-season form in pursuit of World Championship qualifying points.

2015 IRONMAN Raleigh 70.3 champion Meredith Kessler returned for another bout.  Meredith held her place at the front of the swimming, emerging 6 seconds from 2nd place, and 3:33 from third.  Holding her own throughout the bike course, Meredith held the lead, clocking in with the second fastest split in 2:22.  After 10 miles in the run, Kessler’s lead was reeled in and she finished the hard-fought race on the podium in second place.

One of the first to earn her 2016 Kona Qualification at IRONMAN Cozumel in November, Leanda Cave chose IRONMAN Nice to continue her journey towards The Big Island.  Cave raced her way to 3rd place on the podium, turning heads all along the way on her custom painted Ventum One,

In his home-town race, Matt Chrabot joined fellow Ventum Pro Justin Daerr at Boulder 70.3.  A part of the lead pack out of the water, Matt remained steady near the top to finish 5th place in the talented field.

Ventum athletes Cam Dye, Kevin Collington, Cody Beals, and Greg Close, raced across the US in San Francisco and Cambridge.  After his win just one week earlier at REV3 Quassy, Cam plunged off the Escape from Alcatraz boat, taking an immediate lead. Dye blazed to the fastest bike split of the international distance race in, 45:23, to eventually finish in 2nd place.  Kevin Collington followed in 8th place, only two weeks after his 3rd place finish at IRONMAN Brazil South American Championship.

Cody Beals, Greg Close, and members of the Ventum saturated TriBy3 racing team put on a speedy show at IRONMAN Eagleman 70.3.

Cody returned to defend his 2015 Eagleman title and and did so with a 6+ minute lead over his nearest competitor.  Greg Close finished out his day with a season best 4th place showing.

Outstanding Race Results

The triathlon racing season is under way throughout North America. Athletes competing at the highest level are met with the challenge of championship racing, and Ventum Pros are no strangers. They can be seen throughout the Western part of the United States going head to head with triathlon’s finest, such as the St. George 70.3 Pro Championship, which draws a field nearly as deep as Kona, and the IRONMAN Texas North American Championship, a race where many hope to qualify.

Meredith Kessler — along with fellow Ventum Pro’s Cam Dye, Kevin Collington, Cody Beals, and Matt Chrabot — lined up at St. George 70.3 for the North American Pro Championship. This race brought together a talented field of both pro and amateur athletes on a chilly day. Kessler led the women’s field at the front of the swim pack with a time of 26:27 before jumping on her Ventum One and sticking with the lead pack through the cold, wet course. Meredith hopped off her bike at the transition in 3rd position and held her spot through the run earn a coveted spot on the podium.

On the men’s side, Cam Dye shot to the front of the swim followed 14 seconds later by fellow Ventum pro Matt Chrabot. Kevin Collington maintained presence as he stayed in the lead pack throughout the 56-mile bike course before dueling back and forth on the run. Just 6 seconds separating him from the next racer, Collington held on to 4th place; while Cody Beals came in 10th place off the bike, using the second fastest run-split of the day to propel him into 7th place.

The 33rd edition of Wildflower Triathlon — one of the oldest tri-races in the States — hosted Ventum Pro Justin Daerr in its unique swim-run-bike-run long-course race. Daerr traveled to California to use this iconic race as preparation for the upcoming IRONMAN Texas.

Later in May, the North American Championship at IRONMAN Texas was scrutinized, as a series of unfortunate events called into question whether the race would even be held. Lauren Brandon refused to let swim course adjustments faze her, and swam a course-best 48:32 ahead of both men and women’s fields. Brandon used the 94-mile bike course to her advantage as she put 13 minutes onto her competitors, and arrived at T2 in first place.

Justin Daerr ran a smart race, drawing on his hometown advantage to give him the edge. Entering T1 in 20th place, Justin’s strong Bike-Run combo enabled him to put the hammer down on the last loop of the marathon to finish in 6th place.

Meredith Kessler and Lauren Brandon started the 2016 triathlon season with a bang at IRONMAN New Zealand in Taupo. Lauren, in her debut at the IRONMAN distance, led the swim at a record setting pace and exited the water in second place overall. Meredith, second female out of the water behind Lauren, posted the fastest female bike split (4:56:40) and went on to win the race for the fifth year in a row. Along the way, Meredith broke her own record by an astonishing 9 minutes, chalking up her fourth sub-9-hour IRONMAN.

Four-time triathlon world champion Leanda Cave began her second season on the Ventum One in tropical paradise at the Guadeloupe Tri. Leanda had a strong race and earned a spot on the podium with her second place finish.

In April, Leanda returned to the beautiful Cote D’Azur, France to defend her title at the Cannes International Triathlon. Leanda took the lead on the bike and never looked back, winning the race with another impressive performance.

On the Men’s side, Ventum pro’s used the early season races to shake out off-season cobwebs. Cam Dye and Greg Close kicked things off at IRONMAN Puerto Rico 70.3 on March 20. Cam earned a spot on the podium, finishing in third place. Also on March 20, Matt Chrabot, Kevin Collington, and Cody Beals traveled to Mexico to race IRONMAN 70.3 Monterrey.
All three Ventum athletes cracked the top ten, finishing third, sixth, and seventh respectively.

In April, Cody Beals headed south to Brazil to race in the IRONMAN 70.3 South American Championship. Cody demonstrated the handling capabilities of his Ventum One during the technical bike course in Palmas and finished the race in third place.

IRONMAN New Orleans 70.3, a highly scrutinized early season race, featured heavy winds and rough conditions that caused many participants to DNF. Undeterred, Matt Chrabot sliced through the high winds on his Ventum One, earning a spot on the podium with his third place finish (and the second fastest bike split).

Cameron Dye returned to the St. Anthony’s Triathlon as the defending champion of the Olympic-distance race. Cam’s dominance in the water propelled him to his 2nd consecutive win and one of the top 5 course records at 1:46:46.
